2026 Book #13: The Seven Sisters

Book: The Seven Sisters
Author: Lucinda Riley
Rating: ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ๐ŸŒŸ

Completed this for the Popsugar Reading Challenge Prompt #3 (A book you meant to read in 2025) and the 52 Book Club Reading Challenge Prompt #28 (from a series at least eight books long).

Maia Dโ€™Apliese has just lost her adoptive father, Pa Salt. She and her five sisters (all adopted) reunite at their family home, and each of them are given a clue as to where they came from.

Maiaโ€™s clue takes her across the Atlantic to Brazil.

There she discovers the story of Izabela Bonifacio – who burned to live life on her own terms, despite her parentsโ€™ pressure to marry into aristocracy.

When she meets the young sculptor Laurent Brouilly, during a trip to Paris, it changes everything.

The challenge for Maia is that her clue leads her to a long lost relative who isnโ€™t too keen on telling her everything.

With the help of Floriano, a charming author whose book she helped translate, she wants to do everything she can to discover the truth about her heritage.

This is an easy-to-read historical mystery. Although the story of Maiaโ€™s heritage is perhaps a little predictable, it is the overarching mystery in the series that will keep you reading.

It is a great book to give your mind a break between heavier reads, and has enough in it to keep you hooked.

An interesting element is that each of the sisters is named after star constellations (based on Greek mythology), and one can trace parallels with the original myths in all of the stories.

Ideally would like to read the whole series in one go, but letโ€™s see!

Iโ€™m now on to the next sister: Ally.
